Explore Treasure Mode with Google Maps

The maps Google found, belonged to the infamous pirate William Captain Kidd. He was executed moments after he screamed out, “Two hundred bars of gold, and rix dollars manifold, concealed in realms of the unknown.” The map is rumored to contain the clues to Captain Kidd’s long-lost treasure. However, the map contains intricate symbols and codes and is not readily decipherable. Therefore, we’re introducing Treasure Mode on Google Maps, and inviting the whole world to come together in the search for clues. Our team has been hard at work creating custom 3D nanoscanner to digitize Captain Kidd’s original treasure maps. 41% of the maps has already been scanned. But when it’s complete, users can help us crack the code. Some hidden symbols are revealed only by sunlight. Some must be joined like a puzzle. Some react to fire. And others must be aligned perfectly. I found it! To explore Treasure Mode on Google Maps, click the “Treasure” button on the top right corner of Google Maps. If we all work together, we can solve the mystery.

  1. There once was a man named Gold Roger, who was King of the Pirates. He had fame, power, and wealth beyond your wildest dreams. Before they hung him from the gallows, these were the final words he said: "My fortune is yours for the taking, but you have to find it first. I left everything I own in One Piece." Ever since, pirates from all over the World set sail for the Grand Line, searching for One Piece, the treasure that would make their dreams come true.

  2. Someone should make an actual website where a bunch of classic treasure maps were uploaded so that this could be a real thing.

  3. I thought there would be a map like that
but it wasn't there, it is just Map, Satellite and Earth.

  4. Dear google, please make this happen at least like an online game , something like in the movie national treasure

  5. This would make a great puzzle game, as MysteriousMage21 said. You had us all tricked, until I saw the words 'And oh yeah… April Fools'. Why world you do such a thing? You have more important things to do, like work on the new Google Maps (By the way, it's great!) than make this fake video.

  6. Je félicite l'évolution de la technologie, sagesse et intelligence à tous ces ingenieurs et ouvriers..ATEBEX PRODUCTION

  9. This would be legitimately awesome. Minus the heat responsive ink… and the overlay. But nonetheless!!! It would be so cool!

  10. Why isnt this still a feature in Google maps. I'm organising a treasure hunt for a group of people and I would love to use those maps!

  11. The CEO probably spends the whole day laughing about what the responses are probably like. Probably can't watch the videos at that point, perhaps a meeting, but I bet one of the creators is very happy with this…

  12. Seriously Google ur pranks are cruel and unusual punishment to gamers. Not cool man not cool at all

  13. I can't believe I fell for it when I was 10, I really was hyped up by the treasure thing…… my mom locked me from the kitchen that day

  14. Google Maps, did you know that your treasure mode doesn't work. I've tried the link. :'( As a long-time user of Google Maps I would like to suggest some feedback: Please include Treasure Mode.

  15. Well…if they had the maps they'd keep the treasure for themselves. And if they wanted the users help then it makes no sence how they'd know where the treasure is scatered to indicate it to them. However…if every little place was a possible treasure location…it makes sence how it would be released publicly minus the weird stuff on how to make the Xs appear. Not sold because of the sheer absurdity of it. But it could…I guess…after many ifs. Anyway, next.
